  • Ouch Saturdays

I am writing this on Saturday at 12.40 K time and i am hungover so please forgive any mistakes.  Soju is a strict mistress and she is breaking my heart as we speak.
Anyhoo, as usual this week i twice got zapped with the UVB light in order to help my vitiligo.  I have to stand in the UVB chamber with my hands in the air because i have vitiligo on my arm pits.  I also have it on my face, arms, torso, ass and most embarrassingly of all my penis.  Luckily enough all the girls i've been with have never had a problem with it.
I also have to use a steroid ointment on my body and a protopic ointment on my face.  The protopic is expensive but it does not thin the skin.  There's a medical term for the thinning of the skin but i can't remember.
I have been doing the UVB thing for a couple of months now and have noticed some changes.  The white vitiligo area turns a pink colour.  The face skin changes faster than the rest of my body.  Sometimes the affected skin on my face turns red and is itchy as hell.  I've been told not to put the ointment on my face if it is itchy.
I've also seen some of the skin repigment.  This means it goes a darker colour.  It's not the whole area that goes darker.  It's just like a little mole appears in the white skin area and it gets bigger and bigger the more UVB i get.  There is also a chance of hyper pigmentation which is where the skin goes darker than normal.  I've yet to experience that but i'll let you know if it happens.
I don't know if anyone else reads this at all but it helps me so i'll keep at it.

Also going on in my life: my band is sounding better all the time, i am hopefully renewing my contract, i will be back in the UK for a couple of weeks soon, and i have a date with a ballet dancer tonight.
Not bad for a shit kicker from Glasgow.

    Take care.

  • A begining

This is the first post on my blog.  My reason for doing this is i suffer a skin condition called vitiligo and want to tell people about my experiences regarding UVB treatment for said condition.
Vitiligo as described in wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitiligo) is  "a chronic skin disease that causes loss of pigment, resulting in irregular pale patches of skin."
I will also talk about other things that are going on in my life because i am self indulgent but i hope other people with vitiligo will be able to take some comfort from my experiences.  It will also give people a good idea of how it fells to undergo the UVB treatment.
Who i am is not that important but where i am does have a bearing on the treatment.  I was born in the UK and lived there from childhood till adulthood.  I now live in Seoul in South Korea.  I was diagnosed with vitiligo in the UK, when i was 15, and was told there is no cure or treatment for it.  I moved to Korea in order to experience living abroad.  I lived in a small city for a year and then moved to Seoul.  I had given up hope of ever curing my vitiligo and instead made sure i wore sun block whenever it was sunny.  Sure, sometimes i would feel bad about having vitiligo and feel ugly/like a freak/unlovable, but i always took heart that no matter how you look you can still have a positive impact in life.  After all, there is so much beauty in life.
Anyway i was told by a friend there was a good dermatologist in Seoul who dealt with vitiligo.  I waited a month for an appointment and attended with a good Korean friend of mine.  I can't speak Korea so without my friend this wouldn't have been possible.  The doctor recommended me for the UVB light treatment.  So from then on i have been put in a UVB chamber and been zapped with UVB light, for no more than two minutes, twice a week.

My plan is to tell you about any side effects and my experiences.
